Renesas Electronics, the Japanese microcontroller manufacturer, is planning to make the MCU of the vehicle all by TSMC and focus on software and semiconductor research and development to reduce the cost of chip production equipment.
Today, Renesas released the first integrated flash MCU using 28nm technology in the industry, and will start delivering samples from now on. In order to build the next generation of more efficient, more reliable, environmentally friendly cars and autopilot, the revolutionary RH850/E2x series microcontroller has a core of up to 6 400Mhz processors, the first in the industry to be able to achieve 9600MIPS instruction processing capability in the vehicle control flash memory MCU. The MCU also has up to 16MB built-in flash memory and better security functions and functional safety.
The operation performance of the Reza 28 nano MCU is 3 times higher than the current 40 nanometers. Under the rising of autopilot technology, it can meet the MCU demand of low power consumption and high processing performance. The 28 nanoscale MCU, the world's most advanced product, was shipped to a number of well-known auto parts factories, such as DENSO in March, with the target of measuring production through TVM in 2020, and the Reza's home wafer factory was gradually withdrawn from the production of semiconductors.
Following the announcement of the 28nm flash technology development in February 2015, Renesas Electronics announced in September 2016 that it will cooperate with TSMC to produce 28nm MCU. In today's press release, Reza pointed out that the launch of the world's first 28nm embedded flash MCU to the market today will be another important milestone for the reesa electronics. Renesas electronics has verified the use of fin MONOS flash technology on 16/14nm and next generation MCU products.
The Nikkei pointed out that Reza could reduce production costs, while TSMC could also make use of depreciated equipment to produce 28 nm MCU.
According to the reports published by reesa, the revenue from the last quarter (2017 10~12 months) was based on non general accepted accounting principles (Non-GAAP), which increased by 28% to 206 billion 500 million yen from the same period last year, and the revenue of automotive semiconductor industry grew by 14.7% to 107 billion 800 million yen.
The annual revenue of the reesa semiconductor industry increased by 23.4% to 765 billion 700 million yen in 2017, and the revenue of the automotive semiconductor industry grew by 13.8% to 408 billion 100 million yen.
